Tami’s Experience with the Galleri test

[Tami] Hi, my name is Tami and I live in Estacada, Oregon.

I have a wonderful husband and two kids. We live on a 5-acre farm where we raise Boer goats and my husband and I are beekeepers.

Because I was an only child, I grew up pretty much being close to the older people in my family, if that makes sense.

So, this is my grandma. Her name was Violet, and she was my whole world when I was a kid.

I just remember being in shock when she was diagnosed with her first breast cancer.

And something that just rings true over and over and over again is cancer surprises people and oftentimes it comes back.

When it came back, it took her very fast. It was a short time before she died.

I was just... I can't tell you what I was doing. It was a hard time.

I know that the best way of living is catching something early.

I was searching online. The Galleri test is a multicancer early detection test and it was so easy.

When I saw that, I was in shock. I had no idea there was anything like that or even anything like that in the works.

I mean, how many times have people thought,

“ If there was just a blood test for cancer. ”

Sometimes the only person that can get a loved one to go in and have any testing might be a daughter, a son, a husband, a wife, right?

And so they might see this video, see this test, and be like,

“ Wow, I could get so-and-so to go and have this test. ”

It was such an easy test, just a blood draw like anything else.

And it covers more than just one cancer, which is so awesome.

Most of the cancers that Galleri can test do not have a screening test available today.

I know there are other people like myself out there who tend to walk away from anything that could be scary in a cancer diagnosis.

It is something I think that is going to help millions and millions of people and their families, right, to be able to catch cancer early.

Based on a clinical study of people ages 50 to 79 around 1% are expected to receive a Cancer Signal Detected result, which includes a predicted Cancer Signal Origin. After diagnostic evaluation, around 62% of these people are expected to have a confirmed cancer diagnosis. 

The overall sensitivity in study participants with liver/bile duct cancer was 93.5% (100% for stage I, 70.0% stage II, 100% stage III, 100% stage IV).

The Galleri test is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those age 50 or older. The test does not detect all cancers and should be used in addition to routine cancer screening tests recommended by a healthcare provider. The Galleri test is intended to detect cancer signals and predict where in the body the cancer signal is located. Use of the test is not recommended in individuals who are pregnant, 21 years old or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment.

Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in the context of medical history, clinical signs, and symptoms. A test result of No Cancer Signal Detected does not rule out cancer. A test result of Cancer Signal Detected requires confirmatory diagnostic evaluation by medically established procedures (e.g., imaging) to confirm cancer.

If cancer is not confirmed with further testing, it could mean that cancer is not present or testing was insufficient to detect cancer, including due to the cancer being located in a different part of the body. False positive (a cancer signal detected when cancer is not present) and false negative (a cancer signal not detected when cancer is present) test results do occur. Rx only.

The GRAIL clinical laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) and accredited by the College of American Pathologists.
