No Cancer Signal Detected

"Early detection is key to trying to figure out what you can do and do it early." - Keith

Keith’s Experience with the Galleri test

[Keith] Well, life in Oregon for a retiree can be quite exciting, but a typical day will be board meetings. A typical day will be spending time with the family. In fact, I don't know how I had found enough time to have a job.

With an engineering background, I love to see how things work. And the medical world is unbelievable.

I had 30 wonderful years with Intel. The governor appointed me to the board of OSU and that was my first introduction into healthcare and what a hospital corporation is like.

That's also where we got involved with the Knight Cancer Institute, a major research facility that would focus on early detection of cancer.

Cancer is a despicable disease.

It's had a major influence on our society, a major influence on the healthcare facilities, and it destroys families and it destroys lives.

Early detection is key to trying to figure out what you can do and do it early.

When I heard about the Galleri test, which is a multicancer early detection test, I said,

This is wonderful.

Found out that this was a simple blood draw similar to what you get every year at your annual physical. That it had the capability of identifying over 50 different cancers and in many cases identifying what organ those cancers may be originating in.

After I heard all that, I said,

I've got to participate in this.

A couple weeks later, I got the results of No Signal Detected.

And I think about it now in our lives and my grandkids' lives as to having a test like this is a wonderful opportunity to catch things early.

I really hope that this becomes a normal part of medical care.

And that we can use it in the future for future generations.

Based on a clinical study of people ages 50 to 79 around 1% are expected to receive a Cancer Signal Detected result, which includes a predicted Cancer Signal Origin. After diagnostic evaluation, around 62% of these people are expected to have a confirmed cancer diagnosis.

The overall sensitivity in study participants with liver/bile duct cancer was 93.5% (100% for stage I, 70.0% stage II, 100% stage III, 100% stage IV).

The Galleri test is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those age 50 or older. The test does not detect all cancers and should be used in addition to routine cancer screening tests recommended by a healthcare provider. The Galleri test is intended to detect cancer signals and predict where in the body the cancer signal is located. Use of the test is not recommended in individuals who are pregnant, 21 years old or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment.

Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in the context of medical history, clinical signs, and symptoms. A test result of No Cancer Signal Detected does not rule out cancer. A test result of Cancer Signal Detected requires confirmatory diagnostic evaluation by medically established procedures (e.g., imaging) to confirm cancer.

If cancer is not confirmed with further testing, it could mean that cancer is not present or testing was insufficient to detect cancer, including due to the cancer being located in a different part of the body. False positive (a cancer signal detected when cancer is not present) and false negative (a cancer signal not detected when cancer is present) test results do occur. Rx only.

The GRAIL clinical laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) and accredited by the College of American Pathologists. The Galleri test was developed — and its performance characteristics were determined — by GRAIL. The Galleri test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The GRAIL clinical laboratory is regulated under CLIA to perform high-complexity testing. The Galleri test is intended for clinical purposes
