Cancer Signal Detected with a Cancer Signal Origin of Lymphoma
“It was only the Galleri test that showed that I had a cancer signal.” - Jonathan
Jonathan's Experience with the Galleri test
[Jonathan] My name is Jonathan. I am married and I have three children.
I have been very healthy my entire life. No health issues all the way up until I had one particular yearly visit with my doctor.
My wife Jennifer and I went on the same day for our checkup. Their practice was doing this blood test that could look for a cancer signal.
"Yeah, I'm going to say yes, of course. Why wouldn't I?"
My wife, she was great. But mine, I got a signal for lymphoma.
So, I did a PET scan and we found I had lymphoma in the armpit.
Did I ever think something like this would ever happen to me? It wasn't even my thought. There was no indication in my regular panel, blood work, or physical that showed any signs of this.
[Jennifer] When you hear the word cancer, it's terrifying. When most people find out they have cancer, their whole lives stop completely and it's all about the cancer.
Because of the early detection, it allowed us to continue our lives, but also treat the cancer.
[Jonathan] We were lucky enough that we were able to catch it at an early stage.
Because then it was just something I had to fit into my life schedule and my family schedule, my work schedule.
We're clear now and it's all good. Yes, I will have to keep on checking to see where it is.
I'm very thankful that our doctor's office suggested this and is suggesting it to their patients.
We prioritize things differently now, having gone through this journey.
One sees cancer patients. One hears about cancer on TV or in the news. Does it happen to oneself? No. I think, like so many things that happen in the world, it happens somewhere else. It's not you.
When it hits on you, whatever that is, it's a whole different experience.
Based on a clinical study of people ages 50 to 79 around 1% are expected to receive a Cancer Signal Detected result, which includes a predicted Cancer Signal Origin. After diagnostic evaluation, around 62% of these people are expected to have a confirmed cancer diagnosis.
The overall sensitivity in study participants with liver/bile duct cancer was 93.5% (100% for stage I, 70.0% stage II, 100% stage III, 100% stage IV).

The Galleri test is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those age 50 or older. The test does not detect all cancers and should be used in addition to routine cancer screening tests recommended by a healthcare provider. The Galleri test is intended to detect cancer signals and predict where in the body the cancer signal is located. Use of the test is not recommended in individuals who are pregnant, 21 years old or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment.
Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in the context of medical history, clinical signs, and symptoms. A test result of No Cancer Signal Detected does not rule out cancer. A test result of Cancer Signal Detected requires confirmatory diagnostic evaluation by medically established procedures (e.g., imaging) to confirm cancer.
If cancer is not confirmed with further testing, it could mean that cancer is not present or testing was insufficient to detect cancer, including due to the cancer being located in a different part of the body. False positive (a cancer signal detected when cancer is not present) and false negative (a cancer signal not detected when cancer is present) test results do occur. Rx only.
The GRAIL clinical laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) and accredited by the College of American Pathologists. The Galleri test was developed — and its performance characteristics were determined — by GRAIL. The Galleri test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The GRAIL clinical laboratory is regulated under CLIA to perform high-complexity testing. The Galleri test is intended for clinical purposes
