Jennifer’s Experience with the Galleri test
[Jennifer] Hi, my name's Jennifer, and I've been married to my husband, Jonathan, for 27 years.
My experience with the Galleri test is that I had my annual checkup and I went in and spoke with the nurse, and she had mentioned that with just a few extra vials, we could do this test that was available that would detect cancer signals.
My mother passed away at age 52 from cancer, so as I had just turned 50 years of age, I decided it was my time to take the test.
I passed my husband in the waiting room and encouraged him to take the test because, he was the next patient. So I said, "I said yes to the test, and I think you should as well."
[Jonathan] Jen said, "Yes, I did the test." And I go, "Yeah, I'm gonna say yes, of course. Why wouldn't I? "
It's just very, very simple and straightforward and, uh, it's, yeah, probably a really good thing that I did.
[Jennifer] We received an email and we looked at our results side by side and realized that I didn't have any Cancer Signals Detected, but my husband did.
It was pretty much keeping a brave face until we could figure out the next steps. And fortunately for us, the next steps went very quickly.

I think the most important role I played in this journey is to be able to be by his side and support him and guide him and do research because when you hear the word cancer, it's terrifying and all of us know someone who didn't survive cancer.
For me, it was my mother, so I went through that by her side, and I had a little bit of background with finding doctors and reading about treatments.
But for my mother, it was detected at such a late stage that there weren't many options.
With Jonathan, because of such early detection, it gave us that time.
[Jennifer] I am incredibly thankful. The Galleri test is available. It has definitely changed our lives for the better.
Based on a clinical study of people ages 50 to 79 around 1% are expected to receive a cancer signal detected result which includes predicted cancer signal origins. After diagnostic evaluation, around 62% of these people are expected to have a confirmed cancer diagnosis.
The overall sensitivity in study participants with colon/rectal cancer was 82.0% (43.3% for stage I, 85.0% stage II, 87.9% stage III, 95.3% stage IV).
The Galleri test is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those age 50 or older. The test does not detect all cancers and should be used in addition to routine cancer screening tests recommended by a healthcare provider. The Galleri test is intended to detect cancer signals and predict where in the body the cancer signal is located. Use of the test is not recommended in individuals who are pregnant, 21 years old or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment.
Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in the context of medical history, clinical signs, and symptoms. A test result of No Cancer Signal Detected does not rule out cancer. A test result of Cancer Signal Detected requires confirmatory diagnostic evaluation by medically established procedures (e.g., imaging) to confirm cancer.
If cancer is not confirmed with further testing, it could mean that cancer is not present or testing was insufficient to detect cancer, including due to the cancer being located in a different part of the body. False positive (a cancer signal detected when cancer is not present) and false negative (a cancer signal not detected when cancer is present) test results do occur. Rx only.

The Galleri test was developed — and its performance characteristics were determined — by GRAIL. The Galleri test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
