Gracie’s story with the Galleri® test

[Gracie] My name is Gracie, and this is my story with Galleri.

I live in Dallas, Texas. I work at Children’s Health. My favorite part is probably speaking with the families and the children, you know, making a difference in their lives. You know, a kind word goes a long way, and so the good thing about Children’s Health is — they're very sensitive and compassionate.

We have a digital bulletin board, and on it I read, "What if you caught cancer early enough to make a difference?"

I said, "Wow, that's interesting. I'm getting older. I'm gonna retire. Why not? Children's Health offers this benefit."

So the Galleri test screens for a signal that is shared by 50 types of cancer. It’s a simple blood draw and they take it over from there.

Later, after taking the Galleri test, I received a cancer signal that predicted origin was my breast.

Luckily, I get my mammograms every year and my mammogram was due in three days.

After doing a mammogram and further testing, I was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer.

I had no symptoms, no nothing.

I said, "Okay, it’s time. Let’s do what we have to do."

One step at a time, one day at a time.

I did chemotherapy. When I was finished with that, I did the surgery, and when I finished with the surgery, I did the radiation.

And then we were done.

If I had retired and traveled like I had planned, I mean, I would’ve been starting to get symptoms. I would’ve gotten very ill.

The statement, when I read from the beginning, "What if you caught cancer early enough to make a difference?"

But, you know, I’m a living example of that.

I am the proof. Here I am talking to you.

 Based on a clinical study of people ages 50 to 79 around 1% are expected to receive a Cancer Signal Detected result, which includes a predicted Cancer Signal Origin. After diagnostic evaluation, around 62% of these people are expected to have a confirmed cancer diagnosis. 

The overall sensitivity in study participants with liver/bile duct cancer was 93.5% (100% for stage I, 70.0% stage II, 100% stage III, 100% stage IV).

The Galleri test is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those age 50 or older. The test does not detect all cancers and should be used in addition to routine cancer screening tests recommended by a healthcare provider. The Galleri test is intended to detect cancer signals and predict where in the body the cancer signal is located. Use of the test is not recommended in individuals who are pregnant, 21 years old or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment.

Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in the context of medical history, clinical signs, and symptoms. A test result of No Cancer Signal Detected does not rule out cancer. A test result of Cancer Signal Detected requires confirmatory diagnostic evaluation by medically established procedures (e.g., imaging) to confirm cancer.

If cancer is not confirmed with further testing, it could mean that cancer is not present or testing was insufficient to detect cancer, including due to the cancer being located in a different part of the body. False positive (a cancer signal detected when cancer is not present) and false negative (a cancer signal not detected when cancer is present) test results do occur. Rx only.

The Galleri test was developed — and its performance characteristics were determined — by GRAIL. The Galleri test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
